TRANE ASCENDING ~ A MEDITATION

Acknowledgement – Resolution – Pursuance – Psalm            

                                                                                    Transcendence
 

​jazz that’s pure, free, and clear, 

                                                                                     the soul knows what it needs
 
a sacramental  prayer –

                                                                                     music resounds with both

hot and cool tones
 
playing over the keyboard of  your body
 
                                                                                       call it:

the yoga of  –  "The  John Coltrane Quartet"
 
tenor sax
   piano
   four note double bass
drums and cymbals
 
                                                                                        a musical riff moves
                                                                                        up and down your spine
                                                                                        and then inside each cell
 
keys changing here          
   and then there
cool and vibrant                                                        and boiling on the mind’s surface
                                                                                       in between
                                                                                       each passing thought
 
awakening the deepest memories

                                                                                       then opens up slowly
 
to a moment
    a long meditation
    a lover’s soft
​and lingering kiss
 
                                                                                      while sitting in an intimate
                                                                                      darkened room


where moving light forms
   dance in and with and 
through - the air
 
                                                                                      angels pirouette
                                                                                      before their maker
                                                                                      spinning streams
                                                                                      ribbons of light
 
the holy spirit whispers
  delicate sweet notes and tones
 
                                                                                      turning and twisting
                                                                                      lightly around
 
and in perfect unison
  seize the soul 
transport the spirit
 
each musical note and phrase                               touching some part
                                                                                      of your being and
                                                                                      washing it fresh and clean

 
“sheets of sound” hovering over you
                                                                                      moving inside you
 
into the bones and marrow and cells 
                                                                                      of your body
 
bringing some instant clarity of
  thought into your world
look you can see forever now
                                                                                       past all illusion
 
something new revealed
          a deeper revelation
                                                                                       a new creation ascends
 
the mind’s ascension
                                                                                       a love supreme
 
i don’t know what else to name it                        do you?
 
                                be still
                                                                                       listen freely
                                                                                       listen inside 
                                                                                       this stillness
